KSDS Software Update (Campaign 966)

In an effort to continually improve our products, Hyundai has developed a new engine monitoring technology called the Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS) software.

This software is designed to detect abnormal engine bearing noise before potentially severe engine damage occurs. The KSDS update procedure will be performed free of charge for owners of certain 2014-2016 Elantra, 2014 Elantra Coupe, 2014-2020 Elantra GT, 2010-2012 Santa Fe, 2011-2019 Sonata Hybrid, 2016-2019 Sonata Plug-In Hybrid, 2010-2021 Tucson, and 2012-2017 Veloster vehicles.

Warranty Extension Notice:

After installation of the KSDS update (Service Campaign 966), the Powertrain Limited Warranty coverage for certain engine repairs and/or replacement where the engine damage or malfunction is caused by connecting rod bearing failure, will be extended by Hyundai to 15 years or 150,000 miles from the date of original retail delivery or date of first use, whichever occurs first.

The extended warranty is valid for original and subsequent owners. Commercial entities and individuals engaged in the buying, selling, leasing, or renting of motor vehicles, as well as salvaged vehicles, are ineligible for the extended warranty.

Except for vehicles previously recalled under Hyundai Recalls 198 and 209, completion of the KSDS update (Service Campaign 966) is a pre-requisite for obtaining the above warranty extension Therefore Hyundai strongly recommends all owners to schedule KSDS installation at their nearest dealer if they haven't already done so. For more information on the warranty extension please visit www.HyundaiUSA.com/TXXM.
